Road Trip to Success

Every road leads somewhere. It doesn’t make sense to spend time driving on a high way that doesn’t lead to your desired destination. The same is true in life.

Just like roads, our decisions in life lead us to different end points. Each decision has a different outcome, and these outcomes – just like roads – don’t have emotions. They will blindly lead anyone to the same destination.

Take for instance highway 255 and 565 in the city of Huntsville, Alabama. If a destination is along highway 255, you could spend all year driving along 565 and never arrive at your destination. This wouldn’t be because the road is dubious – intentionally leading you in the wrong direction – or the people you met along the road were very bad; it’d simply be because you were on the wrong road.

How do we make sure that we achieve success in our endeavors? Here’s are some thoughts:

1. Clearly define your destination:

There’s a saying, “if you don’t know where you’re going, every road will lead you there.” If you’d like to be wealthy in life, have an amazing marriage, or become a business executive, the first step in the process would be to define what you want clearly. This would then be your destination in our road trip analogy.

2. Identify the highway that will lead you there:

Once your destination is well defined, your arrival to that end point becomes predictable, provided you’re on the right road. Remember that the road is not emotional. Mentors are your GPS. They will guide you and reduce the time you must spend learning. If the road you’re on doesn’t lead to where you’d want to be in 1 – 5 years, exit now!

3. Time:

The journey to success will take some time as you grow through the process. Driving anywhere in a car will take time, but if the road you’re on will lead you to your destination, then you have nothing to worry about. However, don’t mistake the passage of time as an indication of progress.
