It’s official, my friends and I have decided: “Adulting” is not fun! It is a mirage of total bliss and smooth ride. Remember how we were as kids, looking up to college students? Well, some of us got woke! The dream changed real quick.
I wonder if I could unsubscribe from this whole “Adulthood” thing. It is not as smooth as I thought. It is exciting, yes, but just like every new chapter in life, adulting comes with its own pros and cons.
Adulthood is that app you really can’t unsubscribe from. It saves your credit card information, and devoutly withdraws a monthly fee…every month. There is no pause. However, the terms and conditions get revised either intentionally or inadvertently.
There are somethings I wish I knew in my younger years, that would’ve made a lot of difference.
For starters, I wish I thoroughly enjoyed my teenage years. Don’t get me wrong, I did have fun as a teenager; and not the wrong kind of fun – I’ve been “saved” a long time ago y’all!! But perhaps, I should have immensely soaked up pivotal moments. I would look back to my teenage self and say, “Take each task, sweat, doubt, flaw, success, and milestone with strength and courage.” Easier said than done, you might say, but as a lady in her late twenties, I know this! Don’t get me started on my stories, (Story for another day).
So as I was saying, please take a deep breath and consider these tips on how to navigate adulting…
1. My motto is this: “Few years down the line, you would laugh at yourself for stressing over this” . For example, my very first boyfriend who I was in love with; who once cried because he missed me, eventually broke my heart. Now, as a grown woman, I feel ridiculous for being moved by his crocodile tears.
2. It is believed that “About 20 percent of teens will experience depression before they reach adulthood”. Surprising? Well, not so much. This is a real life. If you are going through anything as a teenager, remember there is a great probability that someone else has gone through a similar situation you’re in. And if not, take one for the team. 🙂
3. And lastly, let’s refer to the Cliché “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. Surprised?! It absolutely does!! Everything you go through as a teenager builds a solid foundation for your adulthood.
